I lost another friend in the practice. Alan Hyde died last April, but I just learned of it today. Last month I learned my friend Ivan Kolesik had died. In Ivan's case, I only missed it by a couple of months.
Usually, I would be in the loop on these sorts of events. I should have been on top of it, because these were two of the guys I used for references in 2002 and 2015. They both worked too hard and too much, it always seemed.
The object lesson for me in this is obvious. Work to live, not the other way around. Hug the kids at every opportunity. Don't wait for when there is more time to chase that muse - there is none to spare.
